Harry Hancock is both an accomplished portrait and landscape artist and a Latin teacher; he speaks English, Italian, Spanish and French fluently. He trained for three and a half years at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy, where he received a rigorous education in traditional portrait and landscape painting. This was followed by three years in London, studying Art History at the Courtauld Institute. He graduated in 2006.
Harry paints in oil on canvas, and draws with a large range of media such as pen and ink, charcoal, sanguine, pencil, collage and chalks. To his expertise in traditional media, he adds an original, often surreal, edge in his choices of subject and his idiosyncratic use of materials. He plays the piano, accordion and guitar. He divides his time between the UK, the USA and Spain, producing paintings and drawings on commission and teaching in Greenwich Village, New York.
Harry will be teaching a course in landscape painting and drawing at Trasierra this summer (June 29th – July3rd). Beginner and experienced artists welcome, in any medium. Dawn and dusk scenes in particular.
